This course focuses on the process of procuring a building or structure, and students will examine the process of construction in its historical, economic and practice-based contexts. Specifically, this course will develop your knowledge of:

  • the construction process and how this relates to construction management and the construction industry
  • the stages involved in the procurement of a building: from client conception, through design,construction, operation and demolition/re-use.

In this course they will also examine the different forms of communication that take place between the parties involved in the procurement process, including contracts, specifications and drawings. Topics studied include:

  • History of procurement: the changing roles of the Architect, Engineer, construction professionals and trades
  • Stages in the procurement process
  • Teams and procurement routes required to deliver projects
  • Communication between teams on a construction project, including different methods of communication such as contracts, specifications and drawings

  

Classes are mostly conducted during the day between 8.30am to 6.30pm or weekday evening from 7.00pm to 10.00pm.

Teaching information:

-          To teach the 6 required sessions of 3-hr lectures

-          To set, coach and mark assessments

Job Requirements

- Possess a Master’s Degree or professional qualification in the relevant discipline. 

- Have at least 5 years of related working experience. 

- Have at least 2 years of relevant teaching experience at tertiary level. 

- Able to teach 6 required sessions once a week, either on weekday evening or Saturday

- To set, coach and mark all pieces of assessments
